The new state-of-the-art research facility for Abcam included the renovation of two buildings totaling more than 50,000 square feet across two sites in Cambridge, Mass. In addition to centralizing Abcam’s existing facilities into one location, Abcam wanted a building that would enable them to support their vision to aid breakthrough scientific research.

The project scope included flooring, partitioning, ceilings, doors and openings, and fixed laboratory casework and millwork. Overhaul of the buildings MEP systems, HVAC, electrical, plumbing and lighting. Carefully navigating sensitive elements such as CO2 distribution and a RODI system, Helix was able to build a space that meets Abcam’s unique needs and delivers on their vision to aid breakthrough scientific research.

Helix worked closely with our client from start to finish on this project from programming through construction administration. Our attention to detail allowed us to eliminate 30 percent of the budget for change orders compared to our competition
